Late in 2005 I was contacted by a television production company about appearing on their new show - Richard Hammond's 5 O'Clock Show on ITV1. On the 25th January I appeared on the show to reveal the results of the Shopping List Experiment.
After appearing in The Sun, I was contacted by a television production company about appearing on their new show - Richard Hammond's 5 O'Clock Show on ITV1. On the 25th January I appeared on the show to reveal the results of the Shopping List Experiment.
Also on the 25th January I linked up to Shane O'Connor's mid-morning show on Radio Derby from a small studio in Broadcasting House, where I spoke about the Compendium and The Shopping List Experiment.
January 2006 began with a front page story on the Wimbledon News, as well as features in the Mitcham and Morden Guardian, and the Wimbledon Guardian. For some reason, the St. Albans Observer also featured the story...despite the fact I live on the other side of London! The same story also appeared, in slightly edited form on This Is Local London.
The Sun newspaper rang me in August to interview me for a feature on the Compendium, and so followed a strange day of emails, phone calls and photo shoots. The piece was finally run in December 2005, and calls me "barmy" - a true honour. I think.
Saturday's Guardian newspaper comes with The Guide, in which modern culture is given a thorough going over. In September 2005, the Internet section rather excitingly had a review of the Compendium which closed with lines to make my heart melt: "Honestly, it's fascinating." I believe the battle for acceptance has been won.
At the start of August 2005, BBC Radio 4's Home Truths began with an interview with myself and a fellow collector where we discussed shopping lists and shared our collections.
South Africa's Mail & Guardian Online featured the Compendium in their article, A closer look at what it means to be 'normal'. Funnily enough, the article seems to suggest that running the Compendium isn't 'normal'. Tsk.
To the shopping lists!
